A Canadian in Florida
Jason is here in Orlando right now and I think he likes it. Aside from the humidity, and this horrible rain that he brought with him, I think he’ll like it here. So far we’ve had a lot of fun and I can’t wait for work to end so I can get back home to him. Hopefully he’ll find things to do to keep himself occupied while I’m at work. There’s a lot of cool things to do out on International Drive, only problem is the weather today is disgusting. I haven’t seen it rain like this in at least 5 or 6 months. No Go Karts for pookums.
My law class is almost over and there are few things that get me as happy as I am about this. I hate this class. I hate Law. I don’t really try too hard to pull high grades in this class, so I know I’m not going to get an A, but I’ll settle for a B or a B+ so long as it keeps my average over 3.0. The only thing left for me to do is to post my Weekly Summary and after that I’m done! YAY!
I haven’t updated my blog very much lately. Between work and Jason’s visit I’ve been tied in knots. Jason’s blog and my blog might be getting married soon. Don’t know what we’re going to do yet, but I’ll keep you posted. This will be the first time we officially blogged together and it’ll help us keep our content more fresh. I think we should just write in one blog, but he’s got something up his sleeve, so we’ll see what happens.

Is it Cold in Here?
So yeah.. if you didn’t know by now, I’m in friggin Canada. I’m staying in Markham which is about 30-40 minutes outside of Toronto. I’m having a blast up here but I think I need some friggin sleep. I also need some food. This is the third day in a row I’ve been up with the birds and sleeping in the wee hours. I don’t care though because it’s all good. This hotel is really nice and has zippy internet access too. Hopefully they’re not charging me for this lest I be very surprised when I get my room bill!
Anyway, I’m going to go have something to eat and maybe go for a walk provided my digits don’t fall off in the cold. I’ll try to blog intermittently while I’m up here. Post any questions you have about Canada to the comments. I’ll try to have real Canadians answer them.

Gotta Get Outta Here!
So, I’ve started applying for more jobs in the Silicon Valley area. I gotta get out of Florida. The longer I’m here the more evident it becomes that I don’t belong here. I hate the weather, the people bore me, and the job selection is really crappy. How many postings for “Exciting Management Opportunities” can you read? They’re all scams. Either you’re selling perfume or insurance door-to-door. If I wanna do door-to-door sales, I can sell Mary Kay and make oodles of money on these old bitties. They’ll buy anything I think.
But seriously, folks.. Orlando is a dead place for any jobs of interest. I’m thoroughly tired of being here and it’s time to leave. I need to go someplace where there is more than one friggin’ season.

A Day and a Half..
I can’t believe it! I’ve made it through the week of hell! All will be well come Sunday evening. Woohoo! I’m all in one piece and everything too!
I had a passport scare last night. Regardless of me wanting to take a lil vacation up north, I realized last night when I was laying in bed that I had no good idea where my passport was. I searched my computer area, part of the garage, and my bedroom and couldn’t find the little bugger. I sat down at my computer and started filling in the lost/stolen passport forms and the new passport forms in Acrobat. Then I had this minor stroke and realized that there was a chance, no matter how slight, that my goodies might be in a secret drawer in some of my furniture. I ran over, opened the drawer, opened the drawer within it and there it was! My wonderful friend. My empty passport! It needs to get some stamps in it so I’ve gotta do some traveling (I haven’t been outside of the country since 1988).
So anyway, I dislike bad business etiquette. I won’t get into details about it to protect the people and the company involved, as I do respect their products and have a mutual friend with some of the people involved, but there’s a fine line between inconsiderate and rude. Unfortunately, the line was danced over a lot today. Everything is fine now but I have a thing about being where you say you’re going to be and calling when you say you’re going to call. I am very rigid and structured about protocols, and this unnerved me. I don’t like being put off. If you don’t have time to have an in depth conversation with me, call me and tell me that. Don’t blow me off repeatedly. Maybe it’s because I grew up in New York where business etiquette still seems to mean something. And that’s all I’ve got to say about that.
Anyway.. I was listening to this one in my truck coming home from work… here’s to Sunday night! Next Thursday begins my second graduate level class. I’m nervous because this is a “real” class, not some fluffy introduction course. Fortunately it’s on Human Relations so it shouldn’t be too overwhelming. The other good thing is that it doesn’t seem as though I’ll have to purchase a book. I’m glad I’m taking this course because HR has always been a mystery to me. I never understood how they weren’t the first group axed in a company’s budget cut, while programmers, tech support, and IT people in general seem to hit the fan first. I just never put any stock in HR people until I met the HR rep at PSU (Bonnie). She was awesome at her job. Unfortunately, people like her are an ever dying breed, regardless of their discipline.
