Handy Tools On The Web

As always I find myself bouncing around the web and finding new and interesting tools. It’s no secret that I read a lot of news and blogs online, and I find a lot of interesting services that way. As a blogger it’s also the best way to find new tools to make blogging easier.

Bill at bill2me.com mentioned that he was using coComment which allows you to easily track all of the blog discussions you participate in. When new comments are posted to the threads you have been tracking, it also makes it easy to return there to continue the discussion. coComment also has a Firefox extension which makes automatically alerts you to new comments. Right now I am trying it out and I have to say that I enjoy using it. It allows you to keep up with the discussion in a timely manner and make comments when they are still relevant to the conversation. By following up on discussions you can also drive traffic to your blog.

In my daily Google Reader news odyssey I also discovered Blog Backup Online. This service does daily automatic backups of your blog entries (without graphics and photos) to a remote server. You get 50MB of backup space for free, and right now my blog is taking up less than 10MB of space. The best part about this service is that it doesn’t require any Cron jobs or scripts on your server to complete the backup and it is a very quick and painless setup.

Finally I started using Jott this week. It is a very simple but highly useful speech-to-text application which allows you to leave voice messages which are emailed to you or to any target you desire. You can set up multiple targets online, and when you dial into the system you name your target and leave your message. That’s it! After the message is translated it is emailed to you and it only takes a few minutes. I was also able to set up Jott to send email to my Vitalist Inbox. This is great for people who use GTD because you can always enter items into the system without carrying around a notepad.

I highly recommend that everyone check these services out. They are easy to use and have been proven to be very useful to me even after just a few days of use.

I want Co-Comment to work for me. It only seems to work some of the time. I am trying it here.

Sometimes I forget to turn it on when I make a comment on a site, but other than that it seems to always work for me.
