How Sad is This?

I’m 26 years old and I am, just now, getting into Dawson’s Creek. When the show started I couldn’t stand it, mostly because I couldn’t fathom why anyone would center a show around a character as dull as Dawson Leery. Futhermore, I couldn’t fathom how James Van Der Beek got so much bloody attention. He’s not the real talent on the show. Joshua Jackson, Michelle Williams, and Katie Holmes can all act circles around him, and he’s not attractive. He is like the onion in the cabbage patch on the show. All of the other guys are better looking (not that I’m one to harp on looks - you’d agree if you’ve seen some of the guys I’ve dated *smirk*). Dawson is the only dead weight on the whole show.

Now in my advanced age I’ve come to like the show. Maybe it’s the mean streak in me but I kinda like the way they torture Dawson. It’s not about his coming of age so much as it is about being very entertained by this kid who gets his emotions dragged through a landfill for about six years on television. Sounds like my kind of party! Anyway, TBS is kind enough to play two to four episodes every morning so I get to see Dawson make a fool of himself and Pacey play it cool like nothing’s a big deal. Garsh I love Joshua Jackson. I think I am actually reliving some of my high school angst by watching The Creek. I’m sure I relive a little bit of it when I watch Buffy or Everwood too. I’ve been in a lot of those dumb situations and if I didn’t live through it I know someone who did. It’s kinda nice that I can flip on the tube and relive all my pain, awkwardness and depression through a bunch of (mostly) white kids on TV. It also removes any guilt about me not going back to any of my H.S. reunions. I didn’t like those people the first time around. Why would I go back? To show them how cool I am now? What kind of garbage is that? Anyway, I don’t want to go off on a tangent and start a brand new rant.
